The Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR) is the official official consultation and coordination body of the Flemish universities.
Objectives
- Represent the common interests of Flemish universities.
- Contribute to high-quality, research-based and internationally oriented university education.
- Develop a shared vision on education, research, innovation and societal engagement.
- Strengthening the position of Flemish universities within the European and global higher education and research landscape.
Operations
- Advises the Flemish government on legislation and policy decisions affecting universities.
- Coordinates interuniversity cooperation in education, research and internationalisation.
- Supports quality assurance, including the coordination of joint programme reviews and evaluations.
- Represents universities in consultation structures such as VLOR, VLUHR and policy working groups.
- Promotes international cooperation and development cooperation, notably through VLIRUOS.
