Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the highest body of KU Leuven. It defines the university's mission statement and strategic vision, and oversees compliance with them.

Functions and responsabilities


Strategic policy

Determines and amends the mission statement and strategic vision.

Oversight

Monitors the general functioning of the university and adherence to policy.

Approval of governance

Approves the profiles of board members (except the rector).

Accountability

Grants discharge to the Board of Governors and the statutory auditor.

Specific competences

Decides on matters concerning the Faculty of Theology and Religious studies and the Faculty of Canon Law.

Composition


KU Leuven representation

The Chair of the Board of Governors and representatives of KU Leuven.

Partner institutions

Representatives of institutions within the KU Leuven Association.

Independent members

External members without a direct link to KU Leuven.

Advisory members

The Grand Chancellor (Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels), diocesan bishops, representatives of civil society, and the rector.
