Academic Council

The Academic Council is a central policy body of KU Leuven, responsible for taking policy decisions that implements the university's strategy.

Functions and responsibilities


Policy decisions

Takes decisions to put the university's strategy into practice.

Quality control

Oversees the quality assurance of academic education and scientific research.

Allocation of resources

Distributes the financial resources allocated by the Board of Governors for education, research, societal and scientific services, and student policy.

Faculty governance

Has the authority to establish, discontinue or merge faculties.

Cooperation

Responsible for the academic aspects of cooperation with partner universities of applied sciences and actively develops this cooperation.
